An AI receptionist for a plumbing business does three jobs:
- It texts back every missed call within seconds.
- It answers the phone after hours with a voice agent.
- It books the job onto your calendar.
It never quotes prices, and it flags emergencies by the rules you set.
Price: $2,000 one-time setup + $97/month for the CRM ($0/month while any other On Point Tech service is active). No contract: it's month-to-month and you can cancel anytime.

What an AI receptionist does for a plumbing business
A plumber missed a call while he was under a sink. Eight seconds later the customer had a text back. By the time he stood up and wiped his hands, the water heater job was booked for Tuesday at nine. He never touched his phone.
That isn't one product. It's a few pieces wired together in GoHighLevel:
- Missed-call text back. Every call you can't take gets a text within seconds, so the customer has somewhere to go besides your voicemail.
- After-hours voice. A voice agent picks up when you're closed, asks what's going on and where the customer is, and offers the next open slot.
- Booking plus confirmation text. Jobs land on a real calendar, and the customer and you both get the time in writing.
- Call transcript on the contact. Each call's transcript is saved on the customer's record, so you can see what they said before you call back.
- An owner summary. You see what came in and what got booked without digging through a phone log.
And what it won't do:
- Make up a price or a promise you didn't approve.
- Take card numbers.
- Pretend to be a person. If a customer asks, it says it's an AI assistant.
Why plumbers lose jobs to voicemail
About 62 percent of calls to small businesses go unanswered. That figure comes from a 411 Locals study of 85 businesses across 58 industries, where a live person picked up 37.8 percent of the time.
The second number does the damage. Around 85 percent of the people who land in your voicemail never call back. They don't leave a message and wait. They scroll down and call the next plumber.
So the lead wasn't lost to a competitor with better marketing. It was lost because the owner was on a job, which is where an owner is supposed to be. In most small trade shops the receptionist and the technician are the same person, and that person is under a sink.
How we set it up: 3 steps, 3 tests
I built the whole thing on screen in about twelve minutes on a demo account. Here's the build in writing, including the one thing that will stop it working on day one if nobody warns you.
Step 1: Missed-call text back
This is one workflow, and it's the most valuable thing most owners will ever build in this software.
The trigger is call status: missed. Then a wait step of eight seconds. That matters more than it sounds like it does: a text that fires the instant somebody hangs up reads like a robot, and eight seconds reads like a person who just got free.
Then one message:
Hey, this is Mike's Plumbing. Sorry we missed you, we're on a job. What's going on? If it's urgent, reply 1. If you want a time, grab one here: mikes.plumbing/book
The words do more work than the automation. They say who you are, explain the silence, ask a question, and give an urgent caller somewhere to go that isn't voicemail.
Test one: I called the number from my cell and hung up. Eight seconds later the text landed. I replied that the water heater was leaking and asked about Tuesday, and the thread dropped into the conversations tab with every other text.
Step 2: Booking calendar with confirmation texts
A booking link has to go somewhere real. One service, water heater, ninety minutes, with a thirty-minute buffer so nobody is scheduled to teleport across town. Working hours seven to five, Monday through Saturday.
Then the setting almost everyone skips: turn the confirmation text on. The customer gets the time in writing the second they book, and so does the owner.
Test two: I picked Tuesday at nine on my phone, the confirmation hit, the appointment showed up on the contact record, and the pipeline card moved on its own. The plumber did nothing. He was still under the sink.
Step 3: After-hours voice agent
Texting is fine at two in the afternoon. At nine at night with water spreading across a floor, people want to hear a voice.
So the last step is a voice agent. She gets a name, a greeting and three jobs: ask what's going on, ask where they are, and offer the next open slot on the same calendar the text points at.
And one hard rule in her prompt: never quote a price. Prices come from the plumber, not the phone. That one line keeps an AI receptionist from creating a problem your invoice has to argue with later.
Test three: I called after six. She answered in two rings, asked what was going on, asked whether it was flooding right now, and offered Tuesday at nine. I took it. Same calendar, same confirmation text, and the call transcript was on the contact when the plumber woke up.
The A2P 10DLC gotcha
Build all three steps perfectly and your texts still won't send on day one. Business texting in the US needs the phone number registered with the carriers, which is called A2P 10DLC. You submit the business details, the carriers review them, and that takes days, sometimes a couple of weeks.
Two things follow. Register the number the same day you buy it, before you build anything. And turn the voice agent on first, because it doesn't need that registration and it can carry the phone until the texts clear.
Built on a training demo account. The business, the customer and the phone number are fictional.
How it handles emergencies (burst pipe at 9 pm)
This is the worry we hear most: what happens when the call is a real emergency?
- Emergencies follow rules you set, not AI guesses. You pick the keywords and settings that count as an emergency, for example "flooding", "burst pipe", "no shutoff", "sewage backup" or "gas smell".
- You choose who gets alerted. When a call matches one of your rules, it's escalated to the person you picked, such as your on-call plumber.
- The caller hears what's happening. The agent tells them their call has been flagged as urgent and passed to your team, instead of offering them next Tuesday.
- It doesn't diagnose. It takes the details and passes them on. It doesn't give repair advice.

Answering-service prices are as published by each vendor. For the full comparison, read answering service vs AI in GoHighLevel.
What it costs
- Full AI setup: $2,000, one time. The AI voice agent on your phone line, plus the agent for texts, website chat and DMs. Trained on your business, booking to your calendar, and tested before it goes live.
- CRM: $97 a month. The GoHighLevel account your agents run in, in your name. It's $0 a month while any other On Point Tech service is active.
- ServiceTitan or Jobber connection: $250 one time per integration, on top of the setup.
- No contract. It's month-to-month, and you can cancel anytime.
The account is in your name from day one. If you leave, the account, the contacts and the conversation history stay with you.
AI receptionist software vs a done-for-you setup
Plenty of AI receptionist software exists for plumbers, and some of it is cheaper per month. Tools like Rosie, Smith.ai and Jobber's own Receptionist add-on are built for owners who want to set things up themselves. If you have the time, they can be a good fit.
Our setup is for owners who don't want to configure software after a ten-hour day. What's different:
- Built in your own GoHighLevel account, with the CRM, booking, review requests and follow-up in the same place as the receptionist.
- Tested before it goes live, the same three tests you read above.
- Done for you, with no contract.
Works with ServiceTitan and Jobber
You don't have to switch software. We connect the AI receptionist to the system you already run.
How it works: a call or a missed-call text comes in. The receptionist collects the caller's name, phone, address and what's wrong. Those details and the booking request go to your ServiceTitan or Jobber account, so your office works the job where it already does.
What comes across: the customer's contact details and the booking or job request.
How we connect it: we connect it through GoHighLevel's ServiceTitan and Jobber apps. Running something else? We can usually link it with Zapier.
The step you do: as the account admin, you authorize the connection to your ServiceTitan or Jobber account. We never need your password.
Where your data lives: the conversation and transcript stay in your own GoHighLevel account. The job record goes to ServiceTitan or Jobber.
Cost: $250 one time per integration, on top of the $2,000 setup.
On Jobber already? Jobber sells its own Receptionist add-on, and it's worth a look. Ours is done for you, with text back, review requests and follow-up in one system you own.
Works for plumbers anywhere in the US
We set this up for plumbers anywhere in the US. It's built remotely and can be live in days. Our office is in Los Gatos, so Bay Area shops can meet in person, but most of the build happens on a screen share.
Hear it yourself
Our own front desk is an AI agent. Call (669) 232-8865 and ask Haru anything about us. Ask her if she's a robot, too. She'll tell you.
FAQ
How much does an AI receptionist cost for a plumber?
Ours is $2,000 one time for setup plus $97 a month for the CRM, which is $0 a month while any other On Point Tech service is active. There's no contract: it's month-to-month and you can cancel anytime. For context, DIY AI receptionist tools publish entry prices from about $29 to $49 a month (as published, October 2026), and you set those up yourself.
Is there a contract?
No. It's month-to-month, and you can cancel anytime. The GoHighLevel account is in your name, so you keep it if you leave.
Can an AI receptionist handle emergency plumbing calls?
Yes, for intake. You choose the keywords and settings that count as an emergency, and calls that match are escalated to the person you pick. It doesn't diagnose problems or give repair advice.
Will customers know it's AI?
Yes, if they ask. It never pretends to be a person.
Does it book jobs or just take messages?
It books directly onto your calendar and sends the customer a confirmation text.
Does it quote prices?
No, by design. Prices come from you, not from the phone.
How long does setup take?
The voice agent can go live in days. Texting waits on A2P 10DLC carrier registration, which takes days to a couple of weeks.
Does it work with ServiceTitan?
Yes. We connect the AI receptionist to your ServiceTitan account through GoHighLevel's ServiceTitan app, so new callers and their booking requests show up for your office. You authorize the connection as the account admin. Each integration is $250 one time.
Does it work with Jobber?
Yes. We connect it to your Jobber account through GoHighLevel's Jobber app, so new callers and their requests land in Jobber without anyone retyping them. Each integration is $250 one time.
Do I have to switch software?
No. It runs in a GoHighLevel account in your name and hands the job to ServiceTitan or Jobber. Using different software? We can usually connect it with Zapier.
What happens during business hours?
Your choice: it stays off while you're answering, picks up only on missed calls, or runs 24/7.
Do I own it if I cancel?
Yes. It's built in your GoHighLevel account, in your name.
